The file contains the following edition of this local newspaper: 3 May 1930 (Vol. 324, No. 30). The edition includes a lengthy obituary for Fr. Matthew O’Connor OFM Cap., former Provincial Minister (16 July 1859-27 Apr. 1930).

Requisitions on title on behalf of the trustees of the Cork Assembly Rooms relating to rents payable under the lease of certain premises on Queen Street dated 1 Jan. 1846 (see CA HT/2/1/1/9). Reconveyance from Sebastian Henry Petre, Fitzalan House, Arundel Street, London, and Constance Mary Lee, Mill Hill, Middlesex, to Fr. Bernard Joseph Jennings OSFC, Fr. Peter Edward Bowe, Fr. Matthew Thomas O’Connor OSFC and other Capuchin friars, Church Street, Dublin, of a plot of ground on the west side of Church Street known as number 142 ‘together with the Roman Catholic Church erected on the said plot or parcel of ground called or known by the name of “Saint Mary of the Angels”’. In consideration of the principal money and interest secured on the mortgage of the said parcel of ground on Church Street.

The text also refers to several friars who have been given pseudonyms such as ‘Philemon’, ‘Junius’, and ‘Marcion’. The text includes references to Fr. Albert’s role in the 1916 Rising and in the later revolutionary period. It reads: ‘He felt, as few did, the piercing griefs of the young widows of Easter Week. Often would he visit them of an evening. … He made friends with the wistful little son and daughter who were orphaned by the bullets that took [Thomas] MacDonagh’s life away, and who were made motherless by the cruel waves that closed over the drowning body of the patriot’s bride [Muriel MacDonagh drowned in the sea off Skerries, County Dublin, on 9 July 1917]. For them he had a special corner in his affections. All his heart went out to that wee pair, so tragic, so utterly lonely’. Letter from Fr. Albert Bibby OFM Cap., St. Francis Hospital, Santa Barbara, California, to Fr. Matthew O’Connor OFM Cap., Church Street, Dublin, referring to his declining condition. He wrote ‘I’m so weak and in such a serious condition that I know not if I shall be alive to-morrow’. He declared that he has renewed his profession ‘surrounded by the Franciscan Sisters here and Fr. Dillon, a devoted Kerry friend’. Fr. Albert Bibby OFM Cap. died two days later on 14 Feb. 1925. With cover.
