Volume containing notes on the history and records of the Capuchin community, Holy Trinity Friary, Cork. The front cover is annotated: ‘Cork OFM Cap. Archives, July 1954’. The volume was probably begun by Fr. Michael O’Shea OFM Cap. (1892-1958) in June 1954. The title page reads: ‘Archives of Holy Trinity, Fr. Mathew Quay, Cork. Very Rev. Fr. Mel Farrell, guardian (1952)’. An annotation on the inside front cover indicates that some of the contents of the volume were extracted from archives extant in a safe in the Friary called the ‘Stairchiste’. The volume is divided into a number of sections. The listing below follows the sequence of entries as found in the volume:

• Annals, including detailed notices (chapter meetings, obituary notices etc.) of the Holy Trinity community, pp 30-55.

Assignment from Alicia Louisa Seward, 27 Merton Road, Bootle, Lancaster, to Fr. Justin William Hyland OFM Cap., Fr. Michael John O’Shea OFM Cap., Fr. Mel Peter Farrell OFM Cap., Fr. Matthew Donal Flynn OFM Cap., and Fr. Seraphin Thomas Nesdale OFM Cap., Father Mathew Quay, Cork, of the residue of leases dated 4 Dec. 1844 (see CA HT/2/1/1/4) and 1 Mar. 1845 (see CA HT/2/1/1/6) in consideration of £1,000. 20 Mar. 1951. With declarations, searches, solicitors’ correspondence and related records re the claims of the Capuchin friars to title on Seward properties on Charlotte Quay (later Father Mathew Quay) and on Queen Street (later Father Mathew Street). The file includes the correspondence of M.J. Hogan & Sons, solicitors, 50 South Mall, Cork, regarding efforts to trace Alicia Louisa Seward’s title to the aforementioned properties. Correspondence with New Ireland Assurance Company Ltd., regarding the construction of a boundary wall between the company office and the Capuchin Friary on Father Mathew Quay, Cork. Correspondents include Fr. Justin Hyland OFM Cap., guardian, Fr. Mel Farrell OFM Cap., Holy Trinity Friary, Little Ó huadhaigh & Proud, 51 Dawson Street, Dublin, solicitors, and J.C. & A. Blake, Marlboro Street, Cork, solicitors. The file includes a draft agreement (7 Nov. 1946) and correspondence relating to legal costs.

File relating to cures associated with visits to the grave of Fr. Theobald Mathew OSFC in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Cork. The file was compiled by Fr. Stanislaus Kavanagh OFM Cap. The file includes:
• Statements from Hannah Keohane regarding her son who was cured through the intercession of prayers at the grave of Fr. Theobald. (18 Mar. 1943).
• Letters to Fr. Stanislaus from Fr. Mel Farrell OFM Cap. and Fr. T.J. Walsh re Annie Nolan, 21 Abbey Street, Cork, who reputedly recovered her sight through the intercession of Fr. Theobald.
• Statements and correspondence re Madge Twomey whose throat condition was cured through visits to the grave.
• Letters relating to Mrs Kathleen Skillington (née Walsh) whose leg was cured following a visit to Fr. Theobald’s grave. The file includes the testimony of Dr D. F. Hegarty, surgeon. 5 Jan 1938.
• Letter from Fr. Paul Neary OFM Cap. to Fr. Stanislaus Kavanagh OFM Cap. referring to the cause of Fr. Mathew. He wrote ‘It is to be regretted that there is no one of ourselves free and willing to take an interest in the cause – as according to rumours a great many things occur at the grave. The people come from a distance. No one has any knowledge of themselves, the favours they have received or where they come from’. 28 Jan. 1932. Manuscript, 2 pp.
• ‘Father Mathew / Leader and Priest / Cures wrought at his tomb’. The text of a speech given by Fr. Aloysius Travers OSFC on the occasion of the 123rd anniversary of the birth of Fr. Mathew. Oct. 1913. Typescript, 8 pp.
• Prayer for the beatification of Fr. Theobald Mathew OSFC. It is noted that this prayer was submitted to the Most Rev. Daniel Coholan, Bishop of Cork, for ecclesiastical approval in May 1928. Typescript, 1 p.

Deed appointing new trustees to premises on Father Mathew Quay and Father Mathew Street held by an assignment of a lease dated 20 Mar. 1951 (see CA HT/2/1/2/34). The FMC trust, a limited company having a registered office at the Capuchin Friary, Church Street, Dublin, is appointed a trustee in place of Fr. Michael John O’Shea OFM Cap. and Fr. Mel Peter Farrell OFM Cap., both deceased. With a cover letter.

Leases and related legal documents relating to transactions involving a dwelling house and adjoining premises at no. 16 Queen Street, Cork. The file includes:
• Agreement for a lease by Rev. Fiacre Bartholomew Brophy, Rev. Matthew Thomas O’Connor OSFC, Rev. Jarlath Thomas Hynes OSFC and Rev. Augustine John Hayden OSFC, Father Mathew Quay, Cork, to Samuel Allsopp and Sons Ltd., brewers, for a store situated at no. 16 Queen Street, at the yearly rent of £10. 16 Apr. 1910. With related insurance agreement.
• Lease by Rev. Fiacre Bartholomew Brophy OSFC and others to Jules Brabants and John O’Callaghan, engineers, of a store and premises at no. 16 Queen Street, for 5 years at the yearly rent of £75. 28 Feb. 1920. With counterpart.
• Lease by Rev. Fiacre Bartholomew Brophy OSFC and others, Father Mathew Quay, Cork, to John O’Callaghan, engineer, of the aforementioned premises at no. 16 Queen Street, for 10 years at the yearly rent of £75. 1 July 1924. With counterpart.
• Revisionary lease by Rev. Matthew Thomas O’Connor OSFC and Rev. Augustine John Hayden OSFC, Charlotte Quay, Cork, to John O’Callaghan, engineer, of the aforementioned premises at no. 16 Queen Street, for 14 years at the yearly rent of £75. 1 Mar. 1929. With counterpart.
• Assignment by John O’Callaghan to Jules Brabants, engineer, Grand Parade, Cork, of the lease of the aforementioned premises at no. 16 Queen Street in consideration of £300. 25 Mar. 1929.
