Ticket for the annual concert of the Colmcille branch of Conrad na Gaelige in Father Mathew Hall, Church Street, Dublin, on 30 April 1920. An address by Fr. Augustine Hayden OSFC was given at the concert.

Ledger and account book for the Capuchin community at St. Mary of the Angels, Church Street. The ledger provides a daily record of income received and expenses incurred by the community. Notes are made of income derived from mass stipends, street collections, sodalities, Third Order payments and temperance publications. Reference is also made to monies received from donations, alms, bequests, and cheques. Expenses include travel tickets, lay staff wages, groceries, building repairs and other sundries. An entry from November 1908 refers to the payment of £30 to John Keogh for the completion of work on the Calvary at St. Mary of the Angels. The entries are periodically signed by the Friary Guardian and by the Provincial Minister at visitations.
Manuscript annotation on first page reads:
‘Particulars supplied to the Archbishop at his Grace’s request.
Church of St Mary of the Angels – building was begun June 12th 1868. Total cost including altar pulpit, altar rails, organ but not furniture was £60,000

A photographic print of the wedding of Terence MacSwiney and Muriel Murphy in June 1917. In February 1917 MacSwiney was deported from Ireland and interned in Shrewsbury and Bromyard internment camps until his release in June 1917. It was during his exile in Bromyard that he married Muriel Murphy, a member of a wealthy brewing family in Cork. Fr. Augustine Hayden OFM Cap. an Irish Capuchin friar (2nd row, third from the right), was the celebrant at the wedding.

Newspaper clippings relating to the Irish Revolution assembled by the editors of 'The Capuchin Annual'. Many of the clippings relate to the role played by the Catholic clergy (particularly the Irish Capuchins) during this period. The file includes:
• An article referring to remarks made by Rev. W.P. Burke in relation to the moral justification of wars. It reads ‘who can call the wretched Dublin business a war? It was backed neither by the mind nor strength of the country’. 'Nationality', 9 June 1917.

• ‘Sinn Feiners and the German Plot’. 25 May 1918.
• ‘Salute the Heroes / Back from the Gates of Death’. The article refers to the release of republican prisoners from Mountjoy Jail and to the roles played by Fr. Augustine Hayden OFM Cap. and Fr. Albert Bibby OFM Cap. The article reads ‘The association of these two much loved Irish Franciscan Friars with the last moments of some of the men who died after the Insurrection of 1916 was recalled by their presence yesterday. … Father Augustine appealed to the crowds whom his voice could reach to be calm. He reminded them that the prisoners were very weak, and he appealed to his hearers to maintain order while they were passing through and to obey their Volunteers’. 'Freeman’s Journal', 15 Apr. 1920.

• Reports relating to the solemn triduum in honour of the Blessed Mary Magdalen at St. Mary of the Angels, Church Street ('Freeman’s Journal', 10 June 1901) at which Archbishop William Walsh referred to the continuing disabilities against Catholic religious orders particularly in respect of bequests which have been declared illegal by the courts.
• Report on a retreat for the Brothers of the Third Order of St. Francis at St. Mary of the Angels led by Fr. Augustine Hayden OSFC and Fr. Pius Duggan OSFC. The Rosary was recited ‘for the speedy release of the Irishmen who are now suffering in English Prisons’. 'Evening Herald', 6 Nov. 1916.

Letter from Fr. Laurence Dowling OFM Cap., Father Mathew Hall, Church Street, Dublin, to Br. Senan Moynihan OFM Cap. consenting to the publication of Fr. Augustine Hayden’s appreciation of Seandún (Tadhg Ó Murchadha) so long as ‘he keeps clear of politics’. Fr. Laurence also confirms that he has sent copies of ‘The Father Mathew Record’ to Douglas Hyde.

Letter from Fr. Albert Bibby OFM Cap. to [Fr. Augustine Hayden OFM Cap.] referring to the poor state of the Santa Inés mission. He also expresses his satisfaction on hearing of news in Ireland. He writes ‘I get the "Irish World" and occasionally "Sinn Féin" and so I am kept in touch with Irish affairs – Frank Gallagher’s Prison Daily and other articles I devour even though they pierce my very soul and make me sob like a child’. Bibby asserts that he has said mass for Erskine Childers on his anniversary and will do ‘tomorrow for Rory, Liam, Dick & Joe’. He adds ‘I can never forget what was said, what certain Friars said when my dearest friend Erskine and Rory etc. were slain, oh how their bitter words tore my very soul asunder’.

A letter from An tAthair Peadar Ó Laoghaire to Fr. Augustine Hayden OFM Cap. referring to a publication of his on Irish grammar. Ó Laoghaire wrote 'The fact is, the thing had to remain so long in Mss. because our friends the Gaelic League would not print it as I would not allow them to re-edit-it! I had to wait until the Irish Book Co[mpany] were in a position to take up the work of printing it. Is it not a comical thing that the Dublin Gaelic League would not allow me to be the best judge of my work!'

A letter from An tAthair Peadar Ó Laoghaire to Fr. Augustine Hayden OFM Cap. referring to his articles on the life of Saint Patrick in the 'Weekly Examiner'. Reference is also made to Norma Borthwick and the Irish Book Company.

A letter from An tAthair Peadar Ó Laoghaire to Fr. Augustine Hayden OFM Cap. enclosing a prayer. Ó Laoghaire adds 'How I as detest the note of presumption which often pervades English prayers!' He later affirms that 'The English mind does not seem to know how to conduct itself even in the presence of the Divinity. I have often read English players which actually patronise God'.
