Ledger of income derived from mass intentions at the Church of St. Francis, Kilkenny. The title is given on the first page: ‘House Intentions Book’. Entries are listed under the number of masses said and the amount of money received. Monthly totals are also given. A list of bequests with the amount of masses to be said and stipends received is extant on the final pages of the volume. The entries include the Walsh bequest of January 1914 (29 masses said at 2s 6d) and ‘Mrs Fleming’s bequest’ of 8 May 1915 (40 masses at 5s in stipends). A manuscript annotation at the end of this section reads: ‘All above masses have been said, Fr. Aloysius Travers of Cork, Provincial Minister, 7 April 1915’. Entries throughout the volume are periodically signed by the Provincial Minister at visitations.

The final two pages of the volume contain notes re the ‘Kerwick Mass Bequest’ and to arrangements for saying masses for which stipends have been received.

Framed letter of Fr. Theobald Mathew OSFC, Cork, to Ms [recipient not given] referring to the shortage of food in the city. The letter reads ‘It would afford me pleasure to forward a supply of food but I deeply regret to say that my stock of Indian meal is exhausted. I soon disposed of the three hundred barrels I had for the relief of the destitute. Almost the entire support of the poor strangers who crowd our city is thrown upon me. Eighteen hundred weight of Indian meal is daily cooked in my boilers. Next week, I must have double the quantity as the other public kitchens will be closed’.

Letter of Fr. Theobald Mathew OSFC to Mr. Martin referring to the latter’s emigration to the United States. The letter reads ‘Gratification at the prospect of you securing an honourable independence for yourself and your dear young family in the great and glorious Republic. Your education, talents, application to business and virtuous religious habits would ensure prosperity to you everywhere, except in our own impoverished, afflicted country. Here all classes are on the very verge of ruin, and in adopting the resolution of emigrating you are acting prudently’.

Two framed temperance medals. Both of the medals have ribbons attached (purple and green). The purple ribbon has the following inscription: ‘Approach them once a month / Live worthy of them the entire month / They loose and bind in heaven’. The medal with the green ribbon has an image of St. Patrick with the motif ‘Apostle of Ireland / Pray for Us’. The inscription above reads ‘Temperance / Perseverance’.

Deed of Richard Samuel Owen Robinson and Rev. Andrew Craig Robinson appointing Thomas Jones Robinson to be a trustee of the will Sarah Blair in the place of Richard Bell Robinson, deceased. With a declaration that the lands and premises which are the subject of the trusts of the will of Sarah Blair should forthwith be vested in Thomas Jones Robinson.

Trace map of premises to be conveyed by Rev. Andrew Craig Robinson to Fr. Peter Bowe OSFC and others. The property is divided into sixteen individual lots and is demarcated on the map by a red line. An annotation reads: ‘The red lines indicate the boundaries of the property of Rev. A.C. Robinson and W. R. Robinson’. The premises are bounded to the west by the Friary garden and yard and by the alms house.

Abstract of title of Rev. Andrew Craig Robinson and Rev. Willoughby Richard Knox Robinson to premises on Walkin Street, Kilkenny. The abstract commences with a recital of a fee farm grant of 9 Sept. 1705 from James Butler, 2nd Duke of Ormonde to Mary Pape of ‘a stone house slatted with a thatcht house and garden in hightown quarter also a wast piece of ground in Walkinstreete twenty one foote in front and forty two foot backwards …’ in consideration of £24 13s 4d at the yearly rent of £6 3s 4d with four turkeys and eight capons or £1 6s in lieu thereof. (See CA KK/2/1/1/3/16). The abstract concludes with reference to the granting of the administration (19 Aug. 1912) of the personal estate of Rev. Richard Samuel Owen Robinson to his widow Henrietta Robinson.

Copies (made by Michael Buggy, solicitor) of two fee farm grants by James Butler, 2nd Duke of Ormonde to Mary Pape of houses and premises on Walkin Street, Kilkenny, lately held by Alderman John Pape, deceased, in consideration of £24 13s 4d at the yearly rent of £6 3s 4d (9 Sept. 1705); and in consideration of £81 17s 0d at the yearly rent of £4 with ‘two fatt capons as accates or four shillings sterling per annum in lieu thereof’ (25 Sept. 1705).
