Agreement of Fr. Fiacre Brophy and others with Joseph Sullivan

Agreement of Fr. Fiacre Bartholomew Brophy OSFC and Fr. Matthew Thomas O’Connor OSFC, Father Mathew Quay, Cork, and Fr. Jarlath Thomas Hynes, OSFC and Fr. Augustine John Hayden OSFC, Rochestown, Cork (the vendors), with Joseph Sullivan, King Street, Cork, merchant, for the residue of a term of 800 years granted in a lease from Joseph King to John Reynolds, dated 28 Feb. 1805, at the yearly rent of £34 2s 6d. The agreement is subject to certain legal stipulations and covenants including the requirement to keep the top garret and second floor windows which overlook the ‘recreation gardens of the vendors fitted with muffed and ribbed glass’. Deeds relating to the letting of 47 Walkin Street by members of the Slater family. The file includes: Letting agreement from Fr. Jarlath Hynes OSFC and Fr. Letters from the Most Rev. Herbert Kennedy re alms house properties

Copy letter from the Most Rev. Herbert B. Kennedy, Dean of Christ Church, Corrig Castle, Kingstown, County Dublin, to Fr. Matthew O’Connor OFM Cap. affirming that he pays a yearly rent of £12 5s 5d for two alms houses (formerly called the ‘Munster Arms’) to the Pack Estate. The file includes a letter from Fr. Kevin Moynihan OFM Cap. stating he is ‘writing to the Rev. Mr. Kennedy saying that at present, owing to the state of affairs, we are not anxious to invest in house property. I take it that owing to the same reason that he is so anxious to part with it’ (11 Jan. 1921). Rev. Kennedy later wrote to Nicholas Shorthall, solicitor, referring to negotiations to sell the head rent on two houses on Walkin Street, which he holds from the Pack estate, and which are currently leased to the Capuchin friars. With income tax demands in respect of said properties.

• Assignment by William Ringrose Atkins, chartered accountant, South Mall, Cork, and John Tweedy, solicitor, College Green, Dublin to William Carroll, Anglesea Street, Cork, of the residue of the unexpired lease of the aforementioned premises at no. 6 Queen Street in consideration of £205. 23 Dec. 1904.
• Assignment by William Carroll, Anglesea Street, Cork, to Rev. Fiacre (Bartholomew) Brophy OSFC and Rev. Matthew (Thomas) O’Connor OSFC, Father Mathew Quay, Cork, and Rev. Copy will of Joseph Barry

Copy of an extract of the will of Thomas William Joseph Barry, 8 Queen Street, Cork. He bequeaths to Fr. Matthew O’Connor OSFC all ‘his estate and interest in the house No. 8 Queen Street in which I now reside, and the premises on which has been built Father Mathew Hall free and discharged from the mortgage which now effects said premises’ on condition that one mass shall be said in Holy Trinity Church every week for eighty years. With a rescript for commutation by the Sacred Congregation of this weekly obligation for eighty years to 400 masses as £50 is the maximum value of the house. In Latin and English.
