An article reporting on the return by Captain E.J. Hitzen of some mementoes and ephemera he captured following the 1916 Rising. The items included the white flag used by Éamon de Valera during the surrender of Boland’s Mill. The article also refers to Hitzen’s recollections of the Rising. The clipping is taken from the ‘Irish Times’ (5 April 1948).
A clipping of an appreciation of Margaret Kennedy (1892-1953) by R.M. Fox published in ‘The Irish Weekly and Ulster Examiner’ (13 June 1953). Kennedy was a member of Cumann na mBan who served in Marrowbone Lane during the Rising. She was subsequently imprisoned in Kilmainham Jail. She later worked with the Irish National Aid Association and became a captain in Cumann na mBan (1920), and later a Commandant.
A clipping of a letter from Kathleen Clark published in the ‘Sunday Independent’ in which she gives her recollections of the planning of the 1916 Rising. She refers to P.S. O’Hegarty’s assertion that the rebellion was only planned for Dublin. The letter is dated 29 July 1949 at 40 Merlyn Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin.

Silver memorial plaque presented to Fr. Theobald Mathew OSFC. The inscription reads: ‘Presented to the Very Rev. Theobald Mathew by Messrs Dugdale and McClean in the name of the Catholic and Scottish Union for the Suppression of Intemperance / Patronized by the Right Hon. The Earl of Stanhope in token of their esteem for him as the honoured instrument under God for the Destruction of Intemperance and the Moral Renovation of Mankind / 29th Sept. 1847’. The obverse shows a man and woman either side of a shield. The man bears a banner with the words ‘sobriety’. The woman bears a banner with the words ‘Domestic Comfort’. The shield is flanked with a ribbon with the words ‘Peace on Earth and Good Will to Men / Be Thou Faithful to Death’.

The history reads: ‘1891: Hall in Church St. formally opened up by Archbishop Walsh. Fr. Columbus Maher OSFC (President)’. The history chronicles extensions, leases and other financial matters concerning the Hall property. The remainder of the volume is made up of expenditure and receipt accounts from Sept. 1934-Sept. 1937. Expenditure is listed under the headings of details, cash and cheques.
