St. Joseph's Retreat, Cloonamahon, Collooney letter to the Provincial, Fr. Gerald O'Boyle, C.P., from the Bishop of Achonry, Patrick Morrisroe. Bishop sugests that Gerald has an agreement drawn up for the establishment of a monastic foundation in Collooney for the education of Passionist students for the foreign missions. He sets out on page 2 the conditions to be incoproprated into the agreement: namely, that no collections, questing, draws, lotteries be carried out in the diocese and that the bishop shall have the right to make regulatiuons in regard to the public oratory, specifically that the public may only attend mass there at the times fixed by the bishop and that on certaimn feasts, eg., Easter and Christmas, the public shall not be admitted.

Gerald O'Boyle, C.P., to the Bishop of Achonry, Patrick Morrisroe. Fr. Austin has reported on his meeting with the bishop and the provincial thanks the bishop for granting permission for the establishment of a monastic foundatioin in the Diocese of Achonry for the education of Passionist students for the foreign missions on the property known as Cloonamahon in the parish of Collooney, with certain "little conditions". The Province is willingly prepared to renounce "questing" or collecting in the Diocese and to observe any restrictions the bishop may wish to impose regarding the hours of Sunday Mass, or even the closing of the chapel or oratory on certain specific festivals. St. Joseph's Retreat, Cloonamahon, Collooney copy (typed) of agreement between the Bishop of Achonry and the Passionists Fathers for the erection of a canonical foundation in the Diocese of Achonry, witnessed by the Bishop, Patrick Morrisroe, and the Dean of Achonry, Monsignor James O'Connor, originals of the document (duly signed) being sent to the the Provincial, Fr. Valentine, C.P., on 19 January, 1963. The agreement provides for the fact that members of the Congregation shall not quest or collect money, gifts or subscriptions of any kind, or organise lotteries or drawings of prizes of any description within the dioces. The Bishop shall have the right to make regulations regarding the public oratory, in particular that the public shall be free to attend Mass only at the hours fixed by the Bishop and that on certain specified days (eg. Easter and Christmas) the public shall not be admitted.
