Photographic prints by William Lawrence (1840-1932) of St. Francis’ Abbey, Kilkenny. Robert French (1841-1917) was the chief photographer responsible for photographing three quarters of the Lawrence Collection which is now held in the National Library of Ireland. A history of the Irish Capuchin mission in Northern Rhodesia (later Zambia) compiled by Fr. Luke Browne OFM Cap. (1920-2008). The history traces the history of the mission in a chronological format from 1930 to 1981. Particular attention is given to the arrival of missionary friars, the work of clerical and lay mission personnel, relations with local communities, the construction of mission stations, schools and hospitals in Barotseland (later the Western Province of the Republic of Zambia) and to various mission appointments and transfers. Fr. Luke arrived in Northern Rhodesia in 1948 and the text includes many of his personal recollections of the mission. The file also includes a copybook containing text in Irish by Fr. Luke recounting his initial experiences as a missionary from 1948-50.

Nicholas Murphy OSFC and other Capuchin friars, Church Street, of a yard containing two wooden sheds with an entrance from Bow Street through a plot of ground held by J. Cunningham, in consideration of £125. With a draft prepared by James Plunkett & Son, 23 Upper Sackville Street, Dublin. The conveyance includes a coloured map of the premises referred to in the deed.

Bound volume containing photographic prints of student friars at the Ard Mhuire House of Studies. Some of the prints are captioned. The album includes images of student friars at work (potato harvesting, bailing hay and routine household work) and at recreation (theatrical plays, weekend retreats, sleighing on snow-covered hills, and visits to the beach). Locations visited by the friars include Burtonport, Errigal Mountain, Aranmore, Doe Castle, Fanad and Kindrum. The album contains several views of Ard Mhuire Friary (formerly Ards House) and surrounding gardens. A small number of prints show friars examining what appears to be un-exploded ordnance on the shoreline. Other prints show ordinations at Ard Mhuire in 1955. Fr. Eustace McSweeney OFM Cap. and Fr. Donal O’Mahony OFM Cap. are present in some of the prints.
