Capuchin Missionary Apostolate Leaflet

Advertisement and leaflet re the Capuchin Missionary Apostolate in Northern Rhodesia. The leaflet contains a rudimentary map of Irish Capuchin mission stations along the Zambesi River. The advertisement was probably taken from 'The Father Mathew Record' periodical. It is noted that there are thirty-three Capuchin priests and eight lay brothers working in twelve mission stations in the Diocese of Livingstone.

Photographic albums of Fr. Owen O’Sullivan OFM Cap. The albums cover the years from 1971-1998 and include some personal, family and holiday (Ireland, Poland, Italy, and Bulgaria) photographs and prints relating to Fr. Owen’s missionary work in New Zealand and later in Zambia. He was resident in Zambia from 1978 to 1997. Most of the prints have been annotated by Fr. Owen on the reverse. The prints include:

Views of Parliament Bridge, George's Quay, Sullivan's Quay and Buckingham Place as seen from Holy Trinity Friary on Father Mathew Quay in Cork. An annotation on one of the prints reads ‘Parliament Bridge as seen from Fr. Guardian’s room, Holy Trinity, Cork, 1950’. A copy of the Parliament Bridge image is also extant at CA CP/1/1/1/1/37.

Newspaper cuttings book compiled and annotated by Fr. Stanislaus Kavanagh OFM Cap. Bound in hard covers with printed titled: ‘News cuttings’. The volume includes cuttings of articles relating to local history, antiquarian interest and charity sermons and retreats given by the Irish Capuchins. The volume includes the following articles:
• Report on a sermon in Holy Trinity Church, Charlotte Quay, by the Rev. Dr. Lyster on Fr. Agathangelus and Fr. Cassian, two Capuchin martyrs. [Nov. 1905].
• Report on the laying of the foundation stone for the Fr. Bernard Jennings OSFC Memorial in Holy Trinity Church. 'Cork Examiner', 13 Sept. 1906.
• Report on the dedication of the Fr. Bernard Jennings OSFC Memorial Extension in Holy Trinity Church. 'Cork Examiner', 20 Apr. 1908.

Newspaper Clippings re Sale of Ards House and Estate

Advertisements from the 'Irish Times' (5 Mar. 1927), the 'Londonderry Sentinel' (15 Dec. 1928) and the 'Derry Journal' (24 Apr. 1929) for the sale of ‘the well-known and historical mansion of Ards and its demesne’. The 'Irish Times' advertisement includes a brief account of the Stewart-Bam ownership of the estate. The 'Sentinel' article advertises a ‘two-day dispersal sale of stock, crop, farming implements’ and other sundries at the Ards Estate farmyard on 19-20 Dec. 1928. The 'Derry Journal' advertisement itemizes the contents of the house (including furniture, oil portraits, silver, linen and ‘an extensive library of books’) which will be offered for sale at a series of auctions from 6 May 1929.
