Charlotte House, Queen Street, Cork

Prints of Charlotte House at the corner of Queen Street and Charlotte Quay (now known as Father Mathew Street and Father Mathew Quay) in Cork. The building is five storeys in height. The gable end is topped with a cross. The building was located on a site on the south-east corner of Queen Street. Fr. Cherubini Mazzini OSFC converted this house into a residence for the friars and Charlotte House, as it was known, remained in use until 1884 when the Capuchins took up residence in the present-day Holy Trinity Friary built by Fr. Simeon Gaudillot OSFC (1836-1910). The print may have been taken from a volume.

Ceremonials re Missions and Retreats

A ceremonial produced by the Irish Capuchin friars for missions and retreats associated with the temperance crusade. The ceremonial includes instructions regarding sermons, the registering of pledge-takers, the distribution of total abstinence badges and certificates, and the organisation of temperance sodalities at missions.

Printed photographic album relating to the commemorations of the centenary in 1938 of the inauguration by Fr. Theobald Mathew OSFC of his temperance campaign. Includes images of celebrations and services in St. Mary of the Angels, Church Street, Dublin, Holy Trinity Church, Cork, and at Thomastown Castle, County Tipperary. Catholic Boys’ Brigade members

A series of eight photographic prints of boys probably initiated into the Catholic Boys’ Brigade on Church Street in Dublin. The prints were found in an annotated envelope: ‘Mr. Peter Tierney’s Photos’. Tierney was an early organiser of the Boys’ Brigade. All the boys are barefoot and are dressed in worn rags and torn clothing. Two of the prints depict a pair of boys, possibly brothers. One of these prints is annotated on the reverse: ‘two recruits’. Two of the prints were produced by W.F. O’Connor, 1 Wellington Quay, corner of Parliament Street, Dublin.
