Correspondence between +Levame & +McQuaid regarding a proposal from the Irish Civil Authorities to have St. Isidore’s Church in Rome declared National Church of Ireland to mark the tercentenary of the death of Father Luke Wadding O.F.M. +McQuaid states that none of the Bishops, including himself, have heard about this and he does not support it. He states many of the Irish congregations have churches in Rome and it would be inappropriate to choose one as a National Church. He states St. Peter’s is the centre of our holy religion.

This is the 226th request for a religious house in Dublin. There is fear among the Bishops that if allowed in, these Orders will take vocations from our own congregations, at home and abroad. He has also had to intervene in the area of sending girls to foreign postulant and novitiate centres. He hopes his attitude is understood.
