North Monastery School, Cork

An image of the Br. Burke Memorial Extension building at the North Monastery school in Cork. A manuscript annotation on the reverse of the print reads 'Burke Memorial Science School'. In 1911, the school celebrated its centenary and the Br. Burke extension was formally opened two years later in 1913. It takes its name from Br. James Burke who began teaching in the school in 1857 and was well known for his promotion of the teaching of science.

La Retraite, Cork

An image of La Retraite on Gaol Walk, Mardyke, in Cork city. The building was originally a hostel used by female students attending University College Cork. The house and its adjoining grounds were acquired by the University in 1977. It was renamed Áras Na Laoi and it now houses both academic and administrative units of the college.

Views of Irish Life

A bound volume containing photographic prints complied for publication by Fr. Senan Moynihan OFM Cap. and Fr. Henry Anglin OFM Cap. A manuscript annotation on the spine reads ‘Views’. Most of the prints are not captioned. Many of the prints are of scenic locations in Ireland (such as ecclesiastical sites, landscapes on the western seaboard, and on the Aran Islands), rural life and cityscapes. The album includes the following prints (the index number refers to the pagination within the volume):
