A handbill protesting the actions of the English in Ireland and a call for the violence to end. The flier was published by the Irish Self-Determination League of Great Britain. Includes quotes from Lord McCauley, Lloyd George, Joseph Chamberlain, Herbert Asquith, Woodrow Wilson and Winston Churchill. The text reads ‘You are making war on Ireland today in order to impose the will of a small insolent minority on the Irish nation ... in violation of every principle of honour, justice, morality and democracy’.

Blessing of the Matisse Chapel, Vence, France

A photographic print of the blessing of the Chapelle du Rosaire de Vence (Chapel of the Rosary of Vence), frequently referred to as the Matisse Chapel, on the French Rivera. The Dominican chapel is notable for having been built and decorated between 1947 and 1951 under a plan devised by the artist Henri Matisse (1889-1954).

The play covers the period from the 1913 lock-out to the1916 Rising by chronicling the life of James Connolly described as ‘Ireland’s first Socialist martyr’. A performance of Slater’s play was produced by the Left Theatre Company at the La Scala Theatre in Dublin in April 1936.
