A Dublin medical student, Barry was an Irish Volunteer who took part in an attack on a military truck outside a bakery on Church Street in which three British soldiers were killed in September 1920. He was captured at the scene, court-martialled and hanged in Mountjoy Jail on the morning of Monday, 1 November.
