Founded (and initially edited) by Jim Larkin in 1911 as a pro-labour alternative to the capitalist-owned press, ‘The Irish Worker’ was particularly noted for its caustic cartoons by Ernest Kavanagh (1884-1916) attacking William Martin Murphy and the Dublin Metropolitan Police during the Lockout of 1913
