Lease by Fr. Edward (Peter) Bowe OSFC, Fr. Bartholomew (Fiacre) Brophy OSFC and Fr. Nicholas (Maurice) Murphy OSFC, Church Street, to Bernard O’Reilly, dairyman, of the aforementioned old dwelling house and dairy yard situated on the north side of Carter’s Lane off Smithfield for 999 years in consideration of £182 and at the yearly rent of 1s. One of the covenants attached to the lease specifies that the lessee ‘will not use the said premises or permit the same to be used as an appurtenant to any of the purposes of a brewer, distiller, malt house or storage for the sale of intoxicating liquors or for any asylum hospital or other institution for any offensive, noisy or dangerous trade, business, manufacture or occupation of any nuisance …’. With a draft of the lease prepared by T.J. Furlong, 11 Eustace Street, Dublin. The file also includes a letter from Bernard O’Reilly to Fr. Fiacre Brophy OSFC on the subject of the said lease (1 Sept. 1914).

Lease by John Cotter Wood, 28 Longford Terrace, Monkstown, County Dublin, to William Adams, Queen Street, Cork, of the dwelling house, yard and premises at No. 13 Queen Street, Cork, for 99 years at the yearly rent of £20. The lease has a note attached from John L. Wood (dated 29 Nov. 1894) to the Provincial Bank of Ireland, Cork, objecting to William Adams depositing this lease with the bank. Lease by John Henry Gamble, merchant, to Eugene and Martin J. Collins, merchants, of a ‘store and lofts as now and for some years past in their possession … situate, lying and being in the parish of the Holy Trinity and Borough of Cork’, bounded on the north by premises formerly in the possession of Dr Curtis and now in the possession of William Marsh, to the south and west by another store, yard and premises in the possession of the said lessor (and beyond that Holy Trinity Chapel), and on the east by Queen Street. The said demised premises are delineated in an attached coloured sketch plan. An elevation of store building is also shown. The premises measure 69 feet 0 inches by 54 feet 1 inch. Scale: 20 feet to 1 inch. Surveyed and drawn by Frederick A. Klein, 68 South Mall, Cork, 23 June 1852. An annotation on the front cover indicates that this lease expired in 1951.

Lease by John Jameson & Sons to Fr. Bernard Jennings and others

Lease by John Jameson & Sons, distillers, Bow Street, to Fr. Joseph Bernard Jennings OSFC, Fr. Patrick Columbus Maher OSFC and Fr. Joseph Harkins OSFC, Capuchin Convent, Church Street, of a plot and parcel of land situated on the west side of Church Street as delineated in green on an annexed sketch map, for 90 years at the yearly rent of £13 10s. The sketch plan of the demised premises is drawn at a scale of 20 feet to 1 inch. With a similar lease between the said parties relating to a plot of ground on the east side of Bow Street ‘and a piece of ground at the rear thereof extending along the north side of the premises in the possession of John Jameson & Sons’ as delineated in yellow on an annexed sketch map, for 43 years at the yearly rent of 1s. The lease reserves to the lessor and his workmen ‘full and free liberty in case of necessity to open, repair and inspect the sewer extending from the back of the corn kiln of Messrs John Jameson & Sons and …. a right of entry through the entrance gate in Bow Street to the Chapel Yard at all reasonable times’. The file also includes drafts and copies of the said lease agreements and a copy memorandum of equitable deposit from the Capuchin friars to John Jameson & Sons for £103 as security.
