The bridge was demolished in 1961 and replaced with Griffith Bridge named in honour of Arthur Griffith (1871-1922).

In 1911, the school celebrated its centenary and the Br. Burke extension was formally opened two years later in 1913. It takes its name from Br. James Burke who began teaching in the school in 1857 and was well known for his promotion of the teaching of science.
