Scrapbook of Fr. Alfred O’Mahony OFM Cap. containing notes relating to his work as a missionary primarily in Northern Rhodesia. Fr. Alfred describes journeying to a village in Barotseland: ‘Enter a village – children run out of it to wave to us, the younger and more timid kids who have never seen a white [man] scuttle and bawl like stuck pigs – probably they have been told if they are naughty they will be handed over to “the big bad white man”’. The memoir contains notes re local customs, death and marriage rituals, village life, pastimes, sanitation, race, witchcraft and superstitions. Other headings include ‘meetings and oratory’, ‘progress towards civilisation’, dancing and ‘African Albinos – saw 2 only up to today, 10 June 1947’. Other sections include notes on the Union of South Africa, the Lozi language and the Bantu people of Northern Rhodesia. With a newspaper clipping of a photograph showing Sir John Waddington, Governor of Northern Rhodesia, and Imwiko, Paramount Chief of Barotse, on the occasion of the Governor’s farewell visit to Barotseland in 1947. Printed stamp on front cover reads: ‘Sancta Maria Catholic Mission. Fr. Alfred O’Mahony. 7th June 1947’.

A bound volume containing newspaper clippings and ephemera with extensive annotations by Fr. Henry Rope on events relating to the Irish Revolution, the Civil War, the position of Catholics in Northern Ireland, and Anglo-Irish relations. Typescript annotation on inside front cover reads ‘The Revd. H.E.G. Rope, Plowden, Lydbury North, Salop.’ Manuscript title to the volume (on first page) reads ‘Occasional Notes on Ireland (1923)’.

A scrapbook compiled by Fr. Nessan Shaw OFM Cap. containing fliers, newspaper cuttings and ephemera associated with the commemorations of the bi-centenary of the birth Fr. Mathew. The file includes correspondence and fliers for student competitions, symposiums and publications for the bicentenary. The volume includes:
Letter from Fr. Angelus O’Neill OFM Cap., Provincial Minister, re the work of the Capuchin commission set to co-ordinate events for the bicentenary. 12 Jan. 1990.
Newspaper cutting referring to the cleaning of the Father Mathew Statue on St. Patrick’s Street, Cork, in anticipation of the commemorations.

Schedules and lists of deeds and leases relating to properties and premises held by the Capuchin friars, Church Street. Many of the schedules of deeds were prepared by solicitors investigating title to the properties or were deposited in banks. Some of the documents were supplied to Fr. Nicholas Murphy OSFC. The file includes:
• Schedule of deeds and documents relating to the Capucine [sic] Church, Dublin, received from Blount, Lynch & Petre. The list was compiled by Thomas J. Furlong, solicitor. 11 Oct. 1897.
• Particulars of holdings on Bow Street and Church Street compiled by Terence O’Reilly & Son, 5 North Great George’s Street, solicitor. c.1900.
• Receipt for a schedule of deeds supplied on loan from the National Bank Ltd., College Green. c.1910.
• List of deeds received from Messrs Little, O’Huadhaigh & Proud relating to the Capuchin Friary of St. Mary of the Angels. 10 Jan. 1941.

Schedules of title deeds and leases of properties held by the Capuchins on Father Mathew Quay and on Father Mathew Street, Cork. The deeds were received from the Official Assignee, Four Courts, Dublin. The lists are titled: lots 1-3, and were compiled by Donal McMenent, solicitor. The numbering system devised for these lists is still present on some of the deeds catalogued in this collection.

Schedule arising out of a common search in the Registry of Deeds for acts affecting premises 138, 139 and 140 Church Street and Willis Court, Parish of St. Michan, Dublin. The schedule specifies that the search was for all acts by certain named persons (Frederick Kennedy, John Coyle, Mary Anne O’Brien and Edward O’Brien) from 27 May 1865 to 29 Nov. 1886. J.J. Armstrong, clerk, certifies one of the schedules to the effect that no deeds were registered. The requests for the searches were called for by Frederick Kennedy on 15 Mar. 1883, and by Larkin & Co., solicitors on 2 Nov. 1886. With a receipt for duty payable by Mary Anne O’Brien on said properties on Church Street.
