Personnel lists for Capuchin Friars in Zambia

Lists of Capuchin friars in Zambia from 1931-99. The list was compiled for research purposes by Fr. Bruno McKnight OFM Cap. (d. 21 Dec. 2012). The list gives the years in which each of the 101 named friars served in Northern Rhodesia (Zambia). The file also includes personnel lists for the friars attached to the Vice-Province of St. Francis, Zambia. The information is given under the headings of name, address and contact details.

Geological Survey of the Zambezi River

A collection of photographic prints showing the North and South Sioma Falls region of the Zambezi River, Western Province, Zambia. The prints were produced by Geo Survey International Ltd., Nairobi, Kenya, for Br. Andew O’Shea OFM Cap. Some of the prints have been annotated: ‘Linanga’, ‘Sioma Plain’, ‘Spencer’s Village’, and ‘Ferry Crossing’.

Capuchin Missionary Apostolate Leaflet

Advertisement and leaflet re the Capuchin Missionary Apostolate in Northern Rhodesia. The leaflet contains a rudimentary map of Irish Capuchin mission stations along the Zambesi River. The advertisement was probably taken from 'The Father Mathew Record' periodical. It is noted that there are thirty-three Capuchin priests and eight lay brothers working in twelve mission stations in the Diocese of Livingstone.

Mission News and Bulletins

Copies of Mission News providing details of the personnel of the Capuchin missions in South Africa and in Zambia. Reference is made by Fr. Theophilus Murphy OFM Cap. to work at the mission station at Senanga on the banks of the Zambezi River. Other topics include distressing scenes at the Capuchin mission of St. Anthony’s in Sioma as a result of warfare in neighbouring Namibia (otherwise known as South West Africa). The text refers to the relief efforts of Fr. Benignus Buckley OFM Cap. and Fr. Patrick Mayungo OFM Cap. (Apr. 1981). A list of Capuchin personnel in houses and foundations in the Cape Province (South Africa) and in the Diocese of Livingstone for January 1981 is also given.
