Letter from Irene Brerton, Secretary, Irish Manuscripts Commission, to Fr. Edmund Burke, C.P., informing him that whilst the Commission proposes to publish the MSS, it desires that the accounf of Kavanagh's stay in the French Navy and his visits to French frends shoukd be epitomised. The Commission's notes for editors and transcribers are enclosed for Edmund;s guidance. (The notes are located at 8/4/5/2 serial no 7139 and the instructions contained in them were caried out by Edmund (see typescript located at 8/4/1/1 serial no 7093)

This is a very comprehensive and important report, as it seems to be the basis on which the Provincial Curia decided to undertake missionary activity in that country. It covers such matters as 1950 statistics; copy of leasing agreement signed in 1941 concerning Lot B "Forsest Hill"; contract for the Mission Station, Khale Siding: missionary sisters: rainfall statistiucs: various mission stations: information on a questionnaire covering various aspects of Botswana, plus additional information: pernit for school or mission site; duiscussion with Apostolic Delegate: population: attitudes to Catholicism: Government of Bechuanaland: notes on Aostolic Delegates report: map of missions and mass places: Khale financial statistics and Khale financial surpluses 1946/50. A good account of the report is given in document entitled "Passionists in Bechuanaland" pp 11 & 12 located at 8-1-2-5 serial no 6787.
