Minutes of board meetings of the Commissioners of Charitable Donations and Bequests regarding a deed appointing the FMC Trust to be a trustee of the property comprising of a dwelling house fronting onto Friary Street and situated at the junction with Garden Row. The property is to be vested in the FMC Trust to benefit the charitable functions of the Capuchin Order in Kilkenny.
Memorandum of agreement of Stephen Lalor [var. Lawlor], builder, Walkin Street, Kilkenny with Fr. Fidelis Neary OSFC, guardian, Capuchin Friary. The agreement (compiled by M.M. Murphy, solicitor) stipulates that Lalor will complete the building works on the Capuchin Friary and Chapel in Kilkenny according to the specifications set down by Samuel Francis Hynes, architect. The total cost of the works and labour is £3,430 13s 4d.
This sub-series contains plans, drawings and architectural or engineering specifications and blueprints for properties and premises acquired by the Capuchins in Kilkenny. The section includes many drawings for the extension to the Friary, designed by Samuel F. Hynes (1854-1931), and completed in 1897. It all also includes plans (by the architect Sylvester Bourke) for the extension to the Capuchin novitiate at the Kilkenny Friary which was completed in 1960.
List of donations to the Tertiary Chapel Building Fund, Capuchin Friary, Kilkenny. The volume relates to donations made almost solely by women (including many members of the Third Order of St. Francis). Entries are initially listed as an index under the name of the subscriber, her address, and the amount of the donation. The remainder of the volume is comprised of an alphabetical list of monthly subscribers. Additional notes are occasionally added to the entries such as ‘Miss Bergin left for Australia in March 1896’. Gilt title to front cover reads ‘Ledger’.

The file includes agreements with Nial Godwin, High Street, Kilkenny, at £7 yearly (30 Dec. 1948); with John Carrigan, The Parade, Kilkenny, at £7 yearly (5 Jan. 1949); with Quality Shoes Ltd. at £18 yearly (20 Jan. 1949). Letter from James G. Robertson to Fr. James Edward Tommins, Capuchin Friary, Kilkenny, granting permission to remove a building which the Capuchins hold from the late Lady Harty. 29 May 1876; Memorandum of agreement (dated 19 May 1896) by James G. Robertson, Merton Cullenswood, County Dublin, to Fr. Jarlath Hynes, Superior, Capuchin Friary, Kilkenny, and Fr. Matthew O’Connor, for the yearly letting of a dwelling house on Walkin Street at present vacant but formerly in the occupation of Miss Moore at £16 per annum. With an identical agreement (bearing the same date) amended to indicate that Richard Samuel Owen Robinson and Rev. Andrew Craig Robinson, 5 Fisher Street, Kinsale, County Cork, are the lessors; Letting agreement (dated 4 Jan. 1900) for the said premises at £16 yearly; Letting agreement to Fr. Jarlath Hynes OSFC of the dwelling house on Walkin Street lately occupied by Mary Stapleton immediately adjoining the Capuchin Friary at the yearly rent of £16. With copy. See also CA KK/2/1/1/1/14.
Letters from Lanigan & Nolan, solicitors, Abbey Bridge, Dean Street, Kilkenny, enclosing schedules of old deeds and leases (principally relating to properties formerly known as the ‘Munster Arms’ and to other premises on Friary Street) which have been returned to the Order’s archives. Many of these deeds are listed in the collection above.

Correspondence regarding the sale of properties in Kilkenny city formerly held in trust by the late Fr. Thomas (Hilary) McDonagh OFM Cap. and subsequently held by the FMC Trust. The file specifically relates to the sale to Thomas J. Barrett of a three-storey building over a ground floor shop located at No. 19 Rose Inn Street, The Parade, Kilkenny, and to a house situated at No. 1 Castlecomer Road. The correspondents include Fr. Daniel (Nicholas) O’Brien OFM Cap., secretary of the FMC Trust, John Lanigan & Nolan, solicitors, Donal O’Buachalla, valuers and estate agents, and John Stanton & Sons, solicitors. With manuscript notes regarding title to the said properties which John Lanigan affirms is ‘rather “messy” as most of the deeds appear to have been lost’ (5 Jan. 1972).
Letter from Thomas W. Franks, solicitor, agent for the Harty Estate, to John Lanigan & Nolan, solicitors, regarding the sale by John Slater of premises on Pennyfeather Lane to the Capuchin Friary. Franks refers to the Capuchins’ intention to ‘buy this property in order that they may have room for building at a future date … and to their intention to demolish the existing buildings on this holding which are more less derelict’. With a letter from John Lanigan & Nolan to Fr. Bonaventure Murphy OFM Cap. confirming that the purchase of John Slater’s premises has been completed. The file also includes an acknowledgment from John Slater, a rent receipt and a certificate of rateable valuation for the said holding (30 Jan. 1939).
