Notes compiled by Fr. Benedict Cullen OFM Cap. re the celebration of the 350th anniversary of the arrival of the Capuchins in Kilkenny (1648-1998) and the 150th anniversary of the building of the Church of St. Francis. The file includes a souvenir booklet, notes by Fr. Benedict re the history of the Capuchin foundation, a newspaper cutting ('Kilkenny' People, 3 June 1998), and an audio cassette of a programme broadcast on Radio Kilkenny (23 May 1998) commemorating the anniversary.
Assorted notes by Fr. Angelus Healy OFM Cap. on the history of the Capuchins in Kilkenny. Most of the notes are loose and fragmentary. Notes by Fr. Angelus Healy OFM Cap. on Robert Wilkinson, a liberal-Protestant Alderman of Kilkenny who accompanied Fr. Peter Joseph Mulligan OSFC as he passed ‘through Walkin Street on his penny-a-week collection'. Reference is also made to Rev. Peter Roe, Minister of St. Mary’s, who sharply criticised Wilkinson for his ‘espousal of Popery’, and to the history of the Walkin Street Friary in the early to mid-nineteenth century.
Notebooks and copybooks compiled by Fr. Angelus Healy OFM Cap. on the history of the Capuchins in Kilkenny. The books contain fragmentary notes on significant events and friars associated with the Capuchins in Kilkenny including chronologies, transcripts from old texts, foundation documents and local newspapers and biographical details on friars. The copybooks also include notes relating to: • The building of the new Capuchin Friary on Walkin Street (1848) by Fr. Peter Joseph Mulligan OSFC. • Transcripts of epitaphs on the tombs of Capuchin friars in Kilkenny • Biographical notes on Fr. Fidelis (Peter) O’Rourke OSFC and Fr. J.P. O’Reilly OSFC (including notes re his missionary work in New Zealand) • Notes on the construction of ‘the new organ built by Messrs White & Sons, Dublin, erected in the Church of St. Francis by Rev. P.J. Mulligan OSFC on Sunday, October 28th 1849’.
Notes compiled by John O’Connell (1843-1905), a grandson of Daniel O’Connell, ‘The Liberator’. The book contains accounts of various Provincial Chapters of the Capuchin Order in Ireland, records of personnel changes in various Capuchin communities, and notes on meetings and other activities of the Third Order of St. Francis in Kilkenny. Records include membership and ordination lists. Newspaper cuttings are pasted into the volume. A photographic print of the Capuchin Friary at Rochestown in also extant in the volume. The list includes the names of Brothers Sylvester Mulligan, Angelus Healy, Stanislaus Kavanagh and Albert Bibby’.
A note, possibly by Fr. Angelus Healy OFM Cap., on the building by Fr. Peter Joseph Mulligan OSFC of the Capuchin Friary Church in Kilkenny in 1847. Fr. Angelus wrote ‘in the account of the celebration of the Feast of St. Francis in 1847 there is no reference to any change in the Friary Church, which was the Old Poor House Chapel … the new Church was begun between October 1847 and December 1848’.
This series comprises a collection of local newspapers (mostly published in Kilkenny). Many of the items include articles covering events and ceremonies connected with the Capuchin friars in the city.

Monthly subscription book for the Third Order of St. Francis attached to the Capuchin Friary, Kilkenny. The entries are listed under name and the amount of the monthly subscription. The end of the volume (circa 34 pp) contains an income and expenditure register from 31 March 1892-31 Dec. 1895. A manuscript list of receptions to the Third Order on Sunday, 5 Dec. 1915 is inserted into the volume. The next volume in this sequence is at CA KK/4/2/11.
Monthly subscription book for the Third Order of St. Francis attached to the Capuchin Friary, Kilkenny. The entries are listed under names, amount of arrears (if any) and the amounts of subscriptions received. The record of monthly Third Order subscriptions runs from Jan. 1918-Dec. 1930. The volume also contains miscellaneous accounts including records of collections made by Third Order members at masses and subscriptions towards the cathedral repair fund, 1932-3.
