List of Capuchin friars buried in Foulkstown Cemetery in Kilkenny. The list was compiled by Fr. Benedict Cullen OFM Cap. The list includes names, dates of death and other details (including age) in respect of:

Letting Agreements

Letter from James G. Robertson to Fr. James Edward Tommins, Capuchin Friary, Kilkenny, granting permission to remove a building which the Capuchins hold from the late Lady Harty. 29 May 1876; Memorandum of agreement (dated 19 May 1896) by James G. Robertson, Merton Cullenswood, County Dublin, to Fr. Jarlath Hynes, Superior, Capuchin Friary, Kilkenny, and Fr. Matthew O’Connor, for the yearly letting of a dwelling house on Walkin Street at present vacant but formerly in the occupation of Miss Moore at £16 per annum. With an identical agreement (bearing the same date) amended to indicate that Richard Samuel Owen Robinson and Rev. Andrew Craig Robinson, 5 Fisher Street, Kinsale, County Cork, are the lessors; Letting agreement (dated 4 Jan. 1900) for the said premises at £16 yearly; Letting agreement to Fr. Jarlath Hynes OSFC of the dwelling house on Walkin Street lately occupied by Mary Stapleton immediately adjoining the Capuchin Friary at the yearly rent of £16. With copy. See also CA KK/2/1/1/1/14.

Letters from the Most Rev. Herbert Kennedy re alms house properties

Copy letter from the Most Rev. Herbert B. Kennedy, Dean of Christ Church, Corrig Castle, Kingstown, County Dublin, to Fr. Matthew O’Connor OFM Cap. affirming that he pays a yearly rent of £12 5s 5d for two alms houses (formerly called the ‘Munster Arms’) to the Pack Estate. The file includes a letter from Fr. Kevin Moynihan OFM Cap. stating he is ‘writing to the Rev. Mr. Kennedy saying that at present, owing to the state of affairs, we are not anxious to invest in house property. I take it that owing to the same reason that he is so anxious to part with it’ (11 Jan. 1921). Rev. Kennedy later wrote to Nicholas Shorthall, solicitor, referring to negotiations to sell the head rent on two houses on Walkin Street, which he holds from the Pack estate, and which are currently leased to the Capuchin friars. With income tax demands in respect of said properties.

Granting of faculties to Fr. Matthew O’Connor OSFC

Letter from the Most Rev. Abraham Brownrigg, Bishop of Ossory, to Fr. Bernard Jennings OSFC, Provincial Minister, granting faculties to Fr. Matthew O’Connor OSFC, Capuchin Friary, Walkin Street, permitting him to perform the Sacraments in the diocese.

Deeds relating to Slater’s House at 47 Walkin Street

Deeds relating to the letting of 47 Walkin Street by members of the Slater family. The file includes: Letting agreement from Fr. Jarlath Hynes OSFC and Fr. Matthew O’Connor OSFC to John Slater of a dwelling currently vacant but lately held by Miss Moore on Walkin Street at the yearly rent of £16 (20 May 1896); Administration (9 May 1950) of the will of John Slater (d. 5 Aug. 1945); Assignment from Annie Slater to her grandson John Slater of her interest in 47 Walkin Street which she holds as a yearly tenant from the Capuchin Friars at the annual rent of £16 (18 Oct. 1950); Search in the Registry of Deeds for documents of title relating to John Slater affecting properties on Walkin Street (3 Feb. 1953); Assignment of John Slater to Fr. Aloysius (William) Travers OFM Cap. and others of 47 Walkin Street in consideration of £400 (7 Feb. 1953). With copies.

Copy deed of conveyance from the FMC Trust to Edward and Corann Loughlin

Copy deed of conveyance from the FMC Trust, c/o Capuchin Friary, Kilkenny, to Edward and Corann Loughlin, 31 Thorndale Drive, Malahide Road, Artane, Dublin 5, of all premises and property situated at the junction of Friary Street and Garden Row with the yard at the rear thereof held in fee simple and subject to the terms and conditions as set down in the fee farm grant (29 Oct. 1898) from Penelope H. Colles and others to Fr. Matthew O’Connor OSFC and Fr. Fidelis Neary OSFC at an annual rent of £13 7s 8d. Consideration: £101,000. With draft copies, draft memorandum of agreement, draft conditions of sale and a blank memorial for registering the said deed in the Registry of Deeds.

Conveyance from the Most Rev. Abraham Brownrigg to Fr. Fidelis Neary

Conveyance from the Most Rev. Abraham Brownrigg, Roman Catholic Bishop of Ossory, to Fr. Thomas O’Connor OSFC (otherwise Fr. Matthew) and Fr. Michael Neary OSFC (otherwise Fr. Fidelis) of the two dwelling houses known as the Alms House ‘situated between the Friary Chapel and fronting [onto] Lower Walkin Street, parish of St. Mary’s, Kilkenny city’. The conveyance was signed as part of mutual exchange with the Capuchin friars for the two dwelling houses known as ‘The Munster Arms’. With the corresponding agreement of the same date for the lease for ever by Fr. O’Connor and Fr. Neary to Bishop Brownrigg of the two houses formerly called ‘The Munster Arms’. With preparatory draft copies.
