Requisitions on title and instructions for counsel relating to the sale of premises on Walkin Street, Kilkenny, by Rev. Andrew Craig Robinson to the Capuchin friars. The requisitions relate to questionable points of title to the properties raised by the purchasers. The file also includes instructions and opinions from counsel regarding the drafting of the deed of conveyance and suggested answers to queries from the vendors and purchasers. Many of the requisitions were passed by Nicholas Shortal, solicitor, to John R. Peart Esq., BL, the conveyancing counsel, and to W. Carrigan, 13 Herbert Street, Dublin, barrister at law.

Papers connected with legal searches carried out in the registry of deeds covering deeds of title affecting two houses on Walkin Street held by Rev. Andrew Craig Robinson and others which are to be conveyed to the Capuchin friars. The various searches (common, negative and index of names) prepared by the Registry of Deeds lists the names of the persons searched against, the premises affected and the dates covered. The volume contains brief minutes of the meetings of the Third Order of St. Francis in Kilkenny. Information is supplied in respect of the election of councillors, resolutions passed and other membership and organisational matters. The final page of the volume contains a ‘list of Franciscan Manuals loaned out to members of the 3rd Order of St. Francis on Sunday, 5th November 1876 at 2d each’.

It is noted in the 1903 list that the maximum duration of sermons at mass is twenty minutes. One of the lists is titled ‘Lenten discourses’.

Specification and contract of agreement with Alex Chestnutt & Company, organ builders, Manor Street, Waterford, for the installation of a ‘two-manual organ’ at the Capuchin Friary, Kilkenny. The agreement (dated 28 July 1914) with Fr. Peter Bowe OSFC, guardian, notes that the consideration money for the installation of the organ was £580. The file includes letters from Alex Chestnutt to Fr. Peter Bowe OSFC in which the former notes that ‘owing to this unfortunate war there is very little doing in the organ building trade … and having many bills to meet now at the end of the year I have no other course to take but to ask if you will kindly oblige me with another £100’. (30 Dec. 1914). With letters to Fr. Pius Duggan OSFC, guardian, regarding an estimate from the cleaning and overhaul of the organ (8 Feb. 1930).

Specification of works for the erection and completion of the Capuchin novitiate extension on Pennyfeather Lane by Sylvester Bourke, architect, 79 High Street, Kilkenny. With a similar specification by the architect for work on internal alterations to the Friary to accommodate the novitiate building. With Bourke’s statement of account of professional fees associated with the project (£355 15s 11d). The total cost of the work is stated as £3,637 7s 6d.
