This is an image of some of the working horses used at the Jameson Distillery in Dublin, in about 1905. The photograph was probably taken from atop of the Capuchin Friary which fronted onto Bow Street.

An image of the Corpus Christi procession at the Capuchin Friary in Rochestown. This annual celebration held at the friary attracted huge crowds from both the city and county in the first two decades of the twentieth century. People travelled by train, by trap or walked to the friary from Cork city. It was the most popular event of the year in Rochestown until 1926 when the first Cork city procession was held.

A group of Capuchin friars in the hallway of Rochestown Friary, County Cork, in c.1905. The friar standing first on the left is Fr. Ignatius Collins OFM Cap. (1885-1961), who later served as an army chaplain during the First World War. First on the right, seated, is Fr. Cyril O’Sullivan OFM Cap. (1887-1921), who was later instrumental in founding the Department of Philosophy in University College Cork, serving as assistant professor from 1916 to 1921. Standing, second on the right, is Fr. Colman Griffin OFM Cap. (1886-1971).

Many of the Capuchin friars were fluent Irish speakers. Some like Fr. Augustine Hayden OFM Cap. and Fr. Albert Bibby OFM Cap. were also enthusiastic members of the Gaelic League, regularly preaching in the native language in Gaeltacht areas. This group includes Fr. Albert Bibby OFM Cap. (standing, first on the right) and Fr. Columbus Murphy OFM Cap. (standing, fifth from the left) who later ministered to rebel combatants in the 1916 Rising. Other friars in the group include Fr. Stanislaus Kavanagh OFM Cap. (standing, fourth from the left) and Fr. Bonaventure Murphy OFM Cap. (standing, third from the right).
