Photographic prints relating to the Patrician Year celebrations in Ireland in 1961. Patrician Year was marked by twelve months of religious celebration in recognition of 1,500 years of devotion to St. Patrick. The prints were compiled for publication in 'The Capuchin Annual' (1962). The prints show many images of the visit by the Papal Legate Cardinal Gregorio Pietro Agagianian (1895-1971), greeting President Éamon de Valera and his wife, Seán Lemass and many members of the Irish Catholic hierarchy. The images are mainly press photographs.

‘Hotel Metropole and Post Office, Dublin. Before and After’. In the aftermath of the 1916 Rising, the Scottish photographic publishers Valentine and Sons issued a series of postcard images depicting the destruction of buildings on Sackville Street and at other locations around Dublin.

The print is annotated on the reverse: ‘photograph believed to be the largest group of 1916 men taken’. Stafford Jail was converted for use as a military detention barracks and was used to hold Irish internees before their transfer to Frongoch Internment Camp in North Wales.

A large crowd welcomes the return of Harry Boland (central figure with straw hat) to Dublin following his release from prison in 1917. Boland had been arrested following the 1916 Rising and was sentenced to five years penal servitude serving his time first in Dartmoor Jail and later in Lewes Prison.
