The Papists are making a footing, for I saw the name of Moriarty over one of the best shops in the place’.

The letter adds ‘Aberdeen is a most interesting old place owing its origin to St. Machar, a disciple of St. Columba. It had many holy Bishops in the good old times and the tombs of several of them are still to be seen’.
