Loose Newspaper Clippings and Notes re Saint Patrick

A file containing loose clippings and Irish language notes relating to An tAthair Peadar Ó Laoghaire. The notes appear to be extracts on the life of St. Patrick taken from the clippings. Some of the notes are fragmentary and incomplete but refer to traditions associated with the saint. One extract reads ‘It is stupid to talk of St. Patrick overturning the altars of paganism in Ireland. The first “pagan temple” which he turned into a Christian church was a barn!’. The contents of the file were extracted from the bound volumes at CA CP/3/4/2/1.

Lough Sheelin, County Cavan

Photographic prints for an article by Fr. Thomas Halton titled ‘Sheelin: The Fairy Pool’, published in 'The Capuchin Annual' (1959). The file comprises prints of various views of Lough Sheelin in County Cavan. The prints are credited to Bord Fáilte Eireann.

Manuscript Draft of ‘Sgéal “Sheandúin”’

Draft transcription (with commentary and notes) of ‘Sgéal “Sheandúin”’ (Tadhg Ó Murchadha). The volume was probably used by Br. Senan Moyinhan OFM Cap. for his serial publication of the text in ‘The Father Mathew Record’ (July 1924-August 1925). Several loose (dated) enclosures and notes are extant in the volume. The first portion of the transcription is dated 10 February 1918. The final dated entry in the volume is 22 January 1922. Some possibly earlier notes and translations of religious texts are present on the opening pages of the volume.

Manuscript Draft of ‘Sgéal “Sheandúin”’

Draft transcription (with emendations and notes) of ‘Sgéal “Sheandúin”’ (Tadhg Ó Murchadha). The transcription was probably compiled by Br. Senan Moynihan OFM Cap. for his serial publication of Ó Murchadha’s text in ‘The Father Mathew Record’ (July 1924-August 1925). A photographic print of an infant child is inserted into the volume.

• Burke Sheridan with Vincent O’Brien.
The file also includes newspaper clippings ('Irish Press', 'Sunday Review') of tributes paid to Burke Sheridan following her death.
