An image of a group of Irish pilgrims travelling to the island of Iona, off the Isle of Mull on the west coast of Scotland. The pilgrimage was organised by Fr. Senan Moynihan OFM Cap. (present in the photograph) and Fr. Gerald McCann OFM Cap. The monastic community on Iona was founded by Columba (521-597 AD), also known as Colmcille, an Irish abbot and missionary, in 563 AD.

The card shows Blarney Castle, a fifteenth-century tower house, in County Cork. The festivities organised by the Knights of Equity included the singing of popular Irish songs such as ‘It’s a great day for the Irish’ and ‘When Irish eyes are smiling’.

The principal business conducted at this meeting was the election of a committee tasked with the drawing up of key documents to be discussed at the first sitting of the Dáil proper which was held on 21 January in the Round Room of the Mansion House in Dublin.
