Letter from Fr. Dominic O’Connor OFM Cap. to Fr. Mark McDonnell OFM Cap. Guardian, Capuchin Friary, Church Street, Dublin. Fr. Dominic refers to the existence of archives relating to the early history of the Irish Province extant in the Capuchin General Archives in Rome. He wrote: ‘the opinion was growing stronger in my mind … as I was advancing in the MSS that there must be a report of the Commissary Provincial about date 1711 in our own Archives in Rome and possibly also in the Propaganda ones. Perhaps a copy may be found even in Milan as many manuscripts were sent the Historian General of the Order at one time’. With cover.

A proof copy of a petition (with signatures) to present Ireland’s claims before an ‘impartial non-British Tribunal’ of nations. The accompanying letter stresses the need to present such claims immediately as ‘if such reference were postponed to a date after the end of the war it would be too late to avert the dangers that are now imminent’. With a copy of names of individuals (with professions and addresses) endorsing such a presentment to an international tribunal.

The song uses the refrain ‘Up Plunkett and McGuinness! For I want my four green fields'. Joseph McGuinness contested the 1917 South Longford by-election. At that time, he was prison in Lewes, Sussex, for his part in the 1916 Rising.
