De Courcy Wheeler had accepted the surrender of Patrick Pearse and Constance Markievicz following the defeat of the insurrection. The items were handed over to the state at a reception at Áras an Uachtaráin in Dublin. The image (right) shows Áine Ceannt and Margaret Mary Pearse examining a revolver which belonged to Constance Markievicz.
