Notes seemingly compiled by William Woodlock on matters pertaining to the reform of the Dublin Police and the Court Magistracy service. Some of the notes refer to more general legal matters and to extracts from historical state papers regarding procedures for the appointments of Irish judges and magistrates. Some of the notes take the form of letters. An extract from one of the letters reads ‘The Dublin Police District, besides the city of Dublin proper, comprises the large and daily increasing suburbs of Rathmines, Rathgar, Kingstown, Dalkey, Killiney, and the Pembroke Township. Rathmines and Rathgar in reality form a city of themselves: Kingstown, I need scarcely say is a seaport of some importance, and one of the most frequented gathering places, if not the most frequented watering place in Ireland’. The letters contain recitations and extracts from various Acts of Parliament relating to the administration of the magistracy and courts system in Dublin.

• Clippings of an article titled ‘Irish Music’ by Fr. Richard Henebry. A manuscript annotation indicates it was published in ‘The Irish Year Book / Leabhar na hÉireann’ (1908).
• Advertisement for Thomas Hennebry, wholesale grocer, 16 George’s Street, Waterford. ‘The Waterford Star’, 24 Feb. 1906.
• An artifice referring to the publication of ‘Duanaire Dáibhid Uí Bhruadair/Poems of David O’Bruadair’ (edited by Fr. J. C. McErlean SJ and published by the Irish Texts Society in 1910).
• An article re an address by Fr. Richard Henebry re the summer school in Ring College in County Waterford (c.1908).
• Off-print drafts of an article titled ‘On the tonality of music’ by Fr. Richard Henebry. (Published in ‘The Leader’, 20 Feb. 1904).
• Clipping of an article titled ‘Some Gaelic Scholars by F.D.T.’. The article includes photographic prints of Rev. Patrick O’Donnell, Rev. Eugene O’Growney, Douglas Hyde, Fr. Michael O’Hickey, and Fr. Richard Henebry (Catholic University, Washington). (c.1900).

• A clipping of an article titled ‘Stáir-cuimhne ar Reistéird de Hendeberg’ published in ‘St. Ursula’s Annual’.
• An appreciation article re Fr. Richard Henebry published in ‘The Collegian’ (1918). Includes photographic print of Henebry.

A file containing miscellaneous notes (mainly on legal, historical, and literary topics) compiled by William Woodlock. Some of the manuscript notes are extant on the reverse of previous correspondence or on printed material including a flier from Samuel Haughton, Secretary of the Royal Zoological Society, Phoenix Park, Dublin (February 1874), and a testimonial in favour of Philip Callan MP (1837-1902) dated 22 January 1884. Other re-used papers refer to ‘St. Vincent’s Lunatic Asylum’ (24 July 1877) and ‘M.E. Matthews, Court Dress Maker, Milliner & Florist, 49 Upper Sackville Street, Dublin’. (October 1874).

A typescript note giving details of scholarships at St. Enda’s School, Rathfarnham, for 1914-15. The memorandum was compiled by Patrick Pearse, headmaster.

Draft transcription (with commentary and notes) of ‘Sgéal “Sheandúin”’ (Tadhg Ó Murchadha). The volume was probably used by Br. Senan Moyinhan OFM Cap. for his serial publication of the text in ‘The Father Mathew Record’ (July 1924-August 1925). Several loose (dated) enclosures and notes are extant in the volume. The first portion of the transcription is dated 10 February 1918. The final dated entry in the volume is 22 January 1922. Some possibly earlier notes and translations of religious texts are present on the opening pages of the volume.

Draft transcription (with emendations and notes) of ‘Sgéal “Sheandúin”’ (Tadhg Ó Murchadha). The transcription was probably compiled by Br. Senan Moynihan OFM Cap. for his serial publication of Ó Murchadha’s text in ‘The Father Mathew Record’ (July 1924-August 1925). A photographic print of an infant child is inserted into the volume.

A file containing loose clippings and Irish language notes relating to An tAthair Peadar Ó Laoghaire. The notes appear to be extracts on the life of St. Patrick taken from the clippings. Some of the notes are fragmentary and incomplete but refer to traditions associated with the saint. One extract reads ‘It is stupid to talk of St. Patrick overturning the altars of paganism in Ireland. The first “pagan temple” which he turned into a Christian church was a barn!’. The contents of the file were extracted from the bound volumes at CA CP/3/4/2/1.
