Letter from +Riberi to +McQuaid stating that the Holy Father wishes that theologians and canonists from all over be members of the study commissions of the coming Ecumenical Council. Some will have to reside permanently in Rome and other for certain lengths of time during the study sessions. He wishes to know which members of the Irish clergy are the best for this assignment. The final decision will rest with the Hoy Father but descriptions and competency of the candidates will greatly assist in the selection.

Letter from +McGeough to +McQuaid regarding the Peter’s Pence collections. Ireland is one of the countries who gives the most but per capita. However, the last collection fell by almost 5% and with devaluation and so forth, the collection may fall further this year. The demands on the finances of the Hoy Father are ever increasing especially in direct consequence of the Ecumenical Council and the ever increasing needs for those suffering from famine and poverty. He appeals to the Archbishop to seek the help of all the clergy to appeal to the people to be as generous as possible.
