• 8 August 1947 Correspondence between +Kinane, +O’Brien of Kerry, Dr. Herlihy and +McQuaid regarding the appointment of Dr. Herlihy as Vice Rector of the Irish College, Rome.

Letter from +Riberi to +McQuaid stating that the Sacred Congregation of Seminaries and Universities has organised the first National Italian Congress for Ecclesiastical Vocations. It is hoped this will assist in increasing the number of vocations. Cardinal Pizzardo, Prefect of the Sacred Congregation would like a representative from each country to attend, preferably the person in charge of diocesan vocations. As there is no National Director in Ireland, and there is not much time before the event, it is hoped that the Hierarchy would allow the appointment of Mgr. Donal Herlihy of the Irish College.

Message from Fr. J.A. MacMahon to + McQuaid informing him that Sergeant Herlihy telephoned concerning a Fr. Ryder, a Benedictine at Ramsgate, and apparently belonging to the Diocese of Aberdeen. A suitcase containing his clerical clothes and his breviary were washed up at the East Wall. Dunkeld

He has also been invited to assist at a wedding in University Church and seeks permission for both events. He mentions the pilgrimage to the Holy Land and the Emigrants’ Easter week congress. He had a meeting with Mrs. Helen Fowler and Mr. Michael Callinan from Australia regarding the Credit Union System there.
