A full report on the Czech/motor trade for next meeting. A discussion on the International soccer match between Czecho-Slovakia and the Irish Republic was held. Felt Irish public should be educated in implications of such fixtures with Communist-dominated states. Suggested this could be done by an article in the newspapers facts should first be ascertained, maybe from Douglas Hyde. Letter in The Irish Times concerning the proposal of having US bases in Ireland. Fr. Tuohy to find out if de Courcey Ireland was leaving for Australia. Could Australian Authorities be warned?

Typed letter to Msgr. O’Halloran from M. L. Burke, Supreme Secretary, Knights of St. Columbanus, giving more details on Capt. J. Douglas, R. I. George and P. Pirer. Burke’s informant tells him that he is satisfied that they are a Communist cell.

Copy of a dictated typed letter to Fr. Timothy Connolly from Douglas Hyde. He was recently told that Connolly Association members asked priests in Irish areas in England for permission to sell the Irish Democrat outsides churches. Hyde would like to meet Fr. McGrath to discuss his work. May be able to help him through his column. Would like to meet the two priests coming to Britain in the autumn.

Typed letter to Fr. MacMahon from Timothy Connolly. He has just heard from Douglas Hyde who had not seen the distortion in the Irish Democrat. Hyde will refer to it in his column in the Catholic Herald. The Irish Democrat dropped the section of his paragraph which linked the Connolly Association with the Communist Party.

Report by Douglas Hyde on ‘Communist Group Discussion Method’. In his opinion Communist indoctrination courses are successful because of the methods they employ and because they relate to the lives of those taking the course. An intimate atmosphere is created and the lecturer leads a ‘controlled discussion’. His aim is to get two or three points accepted by everybody in the class and in such a way that the participants think they themselves arrived at the conclusion.
