Handwritten draft letter, penned by + McQuaid, and signed by Michael O’Connell, Secretary, to ‘Sir’ regarding the burial of the four executed I.R.A. men in the diocese. These men were buried as Catholics, with the assistance of a priest, in a blessed grave. By requesting that these men receive a Christian burial there is the implication that the Archbishop refused some rites which were due. The Archbishop deeply regrets the implication, and would prefer to believe that the implication cannot have been meant as a reflection on his actions in such cases.
