Letter from +Knox, New Delhi to +McQuaid stating that the secretary, Mgr. Cassidy has left for Rome and Dublin. He has had health problems and hopes his time in Dublin will see him return to good health. He says that the appeal from the Congregation of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians is genuine and they often get food and medical supplies through the Catholic Relief Service. The Order runs orphanages. The authorities are not always happy about these appeals. Mr. Shah, the former Charge D’Affairs of the Indian Embassy in Dublin sends his greetings and has been appointed Ambassador to Laos.

Note to +McQuaid stating Mgr. Cassidy telephoned to see if the Archbishop could meet with the Nuncio the following day.

Letter from Fr. James Ardle MacMahon to +McQuaid stating that Mgr. Edward Cassidy wished to meet with him regarding the United Nations Conference which is to be held in Geneva. The conference is on science and may be of interest to developing regions. The Government are sending two delegates, Peadar MacEoin, Assistant Secretary, Department of Education and Daniel Hoctor, Assistant Secretary, Department of Agriculture. The Nuncio wishes to know more about these delegates and also wishes to meet them before they leave for Geneva.

Letter from Fr. James Ardle MacMahon to +McQuaid stating he will send the proofs of the two letters to Fr. Paul Leonard SJ. He also informs him that Mgr. Cassidy has called to say a dinner has been arranged by the Nuncio for the Archbishop and ‘Prime Minister’ for

Letter from Mgr. Cassidy to +McQuaid thanking him for the invitation to lunch on 15 June in Holy Cross College, Clonliffe. He will be delighted to attend.

Letter from Fr. James Ardle MacMahon to +McQuaid stating that the British Ambassador had telephoned Mgr. Cassidy at the Nunciature making enquiries about the possibility of having a Religious service for the late Sir Winston Churchill. He has been in touch with the Department of External Affairs and appreciates the delicacy of this matter. As there will be no official service, perhaps an ordinary service could be held on Saturday.

Note to +McQuaid from Fr. James Ardle MacMahon stating that Mgr. Cassidy called stating he had received literature from the Archbishop of Santo Domingo concerning the 11th International Marian Congress which is to be held in March. He wants to know who he should send this to.

Letter form Mgr. Cassidy to Fr. Leon Quinlan thanking him for copies of the letter from the Archbishop on the tridium of prayer for the closing of the Council.
