The most important influence in the country is that of religious leaders and the Minister is appealing to them to remind all road users of their moral obligations in relation to themselves and others. In the last ten years almost 3,000 were killed, 50,000 injured at a cost of 5 million. +McQuaid will be glad to see what he can do in forming a more accurate conscience and a greater unselfishness.

Neither he nor Mgr. Alibrandi were available to accompany Fr. Boylan to Collinstown and hence he is very grateful to the Archbishop. He also discusses the merits of the complaints of Br. John O’Toole which will be sent to the Sacred Congregation for Religious and he has followed the advice and information provided by the Archbishop. He also mentions Professor H. Bruck who has been nominated for membership to the Pontifical Academy of Science. He mentions the new Nuncio who is leaving Cairo on 31 July and who plans on stopping in Rome before coming to Dublin.
Letter from Mgr. Patrick Boylan to +McQuaid regarding Fr. Finbar O’Mahony O.S.B., the Superior of the Benedictine University Hostel. He has been appointed Conferencier to the Sisters at the Nunciature by Mother Mary. He will not however be 40 years old until the following year and so perhaps he can be allowed to have weekly or monthly conferences with the Sisters while making it clear he has not been appointed Confessor. He notes ‘…Mother Mary has never had the slightest tendency to look on the authorities of the Dublin Diocese as deserving any special recognition or respect’.
