              Letter from +McGeough to +McQuaid stating that the Motu Proprio ‘Pontificalis Domus’ of Pope Paul IV provides that, while Chamberlains of the Cape and Sword of His Holiness, should remain, the name would be changed to that of ‘Gentlemen in Waiting on His Holiness’. Don Ferdinando D’Ardia Caracciolo dei Principi di Cursi, who holds this title, lives in the Archdiocese and asks that he be informed of the change.

He states the Holy Father has granted permission for him to govern the Archdiocese until after the next Synod of Bishops. Annotated by +McQuaid stating ‘Handed to me after lunch to Card. Daniolar in the French Embassy by the Nuncio, Mgr. Alibrandi, 16 January 1971’.

              Copy letter from +McQuaid to +Alibrandi stating that due to the short notice, he has only sent a copy of the letter from Cardinal Villot to each Bishop and leaving to their discretion the local organisation. He has also contacted non-Catholic clergy. He also states that Dublin has already had a very ‘fruitful’ collection for Pakistan and does not feel it would be right to impose another collection on the Archdiocese. He suggests Friday 15th October as a fast day.
