              Letter from Cardinal Bernard Griffin, Benedictine Abbey, Kylemore, Clifden, Co. Galway to +McQuaid thanking him for the invitation to Archbishop’s House and to lunch at Notre Dame. His brother, Fr. Basil will also be able to attend. He has hoped to keep his visit private but was photographed by someone ‘snooping round’. Cardinal Griffin was Archbishop of Westminster and Fr. Basil was his twin brother.

              Typed minutes of ‘V’ Committee meeting. The following items are mentioned in the report: Fr. O’Connell spoke to the Lord Mayor regarding her presiding at the Anti-Nuclear Armaments meeting. She was grateful as she had not known the position. A full report was received on Farrington and Morrison. Mrs. Mary O’Connell is the editor of The Plough. More information sought on her. Sam Mooney is a Communist and a member of the Irish Workers’ League. Mrs McAuley she is causing some trouble in the Irish Housewives Association. Fr. Clarke is to check if she is on the Adoption Board. Fr. Maguire reports a Scientology centre in Monkstown at which there seems to be three Maynooth Professors attending.

              Correspondence relating to routine community life and apostolate. They have permission to remove their theology scholastics to Shelton Abbey, Arklow. Director of French Sisters of Charity (Daughters of Charity) firmly declines to leave Sisters in difficult conditions at Glencree. (see Oblates of Mary files). A beginning of secondary school at Sybil Hill, Raheny. Proposal from laity to have Vincentian secondary school at Arklow. Sisters will undertake new school at Ballyfermot. (see French Sisters of Charity file, also known as Daughters of Charity).
