Father Mathew Feis Programmes

Programmes for the Father Mathew Feis, Cork. The printed programmes include timetables and syllabuses of competitions, and souvenir publications. The programmes list the dates and times of the competitions and the names of the various judges and adjudicators. Letter from John Earley, stained glass artist and church decorator, Upper Camden Street, Dublin, to Fr. Jarlath Hynes OSFC regarding designs of the tabernacle and canopy of the High Altar in the Capuchin Friary Church on Walkin Street in Kilkenny.

Finn’s Leinster Journal

Founded by Edmund Finn in 1767, this newspaper was published in Kilkenny twice weekly (on Wednesdays and Saturdays). It also included local news from surrounding counties including Carlow, Kildare, Tipperary, and Waterford. Following the death of her husband in 1777, Catherine Finn took over the running of the paper. It was subsequently published as the 'Leinster Journal' (1801-1830), and the 'Kilkenny Journal and Leinster Commercial and Literary Advertiser' (1832-1922). The file includes the following editions:

'Daily Mirror'

A clipping from the 'Daily Mirror' (5 Sept. 1913) reporting on the 'children killed in the tenement collapse' on Church Street. A manuscript annotation on the clipping reads 'left Fr. Jarlath [Hynes]. Right Fr. Paul [Neary]. Gentleman smoking cigarette is Mr. M. Moynihan C.E., Fr. Kevin's [Moynihan] brother'.

Church Street Disaster Fund Statement

Schedule containing statements showing the ‘number of persons who, prior to the disaster, resided in Nos. 66 and 67 (the houses were completely demolished), the number killed, injured, and left homeless. The statement also includes the number killed and injured in house No. 64, and the amount of grants given’.
