Photographic print of a large congregation attending a Sacred Thirst Confraternity meeting in St. Mary of the Angels. The congregation appear to be holding lighted candles. An annotation by Fr. Angelus Healy OFM Cap. reads ‘March 13th-20th 1904. Sacred Heart Glowing Ceremony’.

Eucharistic Procession

Photograph prints of a Eucharistic Procession outside St. Mary of the Angels, Church Street. Br. Columcille Cregan OFM Cap. (1897-1979) is seen at the head of the procession of altar-servers. One of the celebrants is Fr. John Butler OFM Cap. (1873-1950). One of the prints is ink-stamped on the reverse: 'Irish Independent'.

High Altar of St. Mary of the Angels

Photographic prints of the High Altar, St. Mary of the Angels, Church Street. The church and altar appear to be decorated for the Forty Hours’ Devotion ('Quarant’ Ore'). A wider view of the decorated church interior is pasted onto the reverse of one of the larger prints.

Gallaher Cigarette Cards

‘Irish View Scenery’ cards issued by Gallaher Cigarette Company Ltd. The cards are numbered: ‘No. 60: Father Mathew’s R.C. Church, Cork’; ‘No. 310: Father Mathew Statue, Cork’. The cards were issued by Gallaher Ltd. between 1908 and 1910. The complete set runs to 600 cards. Many of the photographs were taken by Robert John Welch from Belfast, and by William Lawrence, a Dublin-based photographer and studio owner. With a cover letter (dated 18 June 1982) to Fr. Nessan Shaw OFM Cap. from Walter McGrath explaining their provenance.

A group of four Capuchin friars in the garden of Holy Trinity Friary, Cork. The cover indicates that the friars are (from left) Fr. Stanislaus Kavanagh OFM Cap. (1876-1965), Fr. John Butler OFM Cap. (1873-1950), Fr. Bernadine Harvey OFM Cap. (1874-1953) and Fr. Joseph Fenlon OFM Cap. (1875-1963). The original glass plate of this image is at CA PH/1/58.
