This series contains unpublished research notes compiled mainly by Capuchin friars, particularly Fr. Angelus Healy OFM Cap. (1875-1953), relating to the history of the Capuchin Order in Kilkenny or to noteworthy local members of the Order.

Lease by Fr. Edward (Peter) Bowe OSFC and other Capuchin friars, Franciscan Capuchin Friary, Church Street, to Robert Kavanagh, grocer, tobacconist and confectioner, of the dwelling house and premises known as no. 151 Church Street, together with a plot of ground upon which nos. 11-15 May Lane formerly stood, for 150 years at the yearly rent of 1s and in consideration of the sum of £300. With a letter from Seán Ó Huadhaigh, solicitor, to Fr. Angelus Healy OFM Cap., regarding Kavanagh’s lease of 12 May Lane and questions re the title to the premises. 20 Mar. 1969.

Ledger and account book for the Capuchin community at St. Mary of the Angels, Church Street. The ledger contains details of routine income and expenditure including wages for lay staff, building repairs, and various foodstuffs and groceries. Entries for income relate primarily to collections, donations, and bequests. The pages are pre-paginated in the volume. The mass register for the community commences at p. 86 and is titled ‘Liber pro missis dicendis ad intentionem superious localis’. The register provides a list of the names of individuals to whom a special intention or prayer is offered. The register runs from 16 Aug. 1886-31 Oct. 1889. The entries are signed by the celebrating priest. The mass intentions’ register runs from pp 86-309. A typescript insert is also extant. It reads: ‘Dublin House Ledger, July 1882 to July 1883. … income and expenditure during my administration, commencing July 1st 1882, Convent and Church of Our Lady of Angels Church Street, Dublin, D.A. [Albert] Mitchell, OSFC, Ex. C. Prov.’.
The front cover has been annotated by Fr. Angelus Healy OFM Cap.: ‘This ledger contains I. House expenses (Dublin) from 1st July 1882 to July 2nd 1883. II. Community Masses from August 16th 1886 to Oct. 31st 1889.

Letter from Fr. Laurence O’Dea OSFC to Fr. Angelus Healy OSFC regarding a story told to him by the Most Rev. Thomas Francis Hendricken (1827-1886), Bishop of Providence, Rhode Island, during a visit to Kilkenny in c.1873. The story concerns a false accusation made against a priest by a young woman in the early 1830s. Fr. O’Dea also referred to his temperance ministry in India where the 2nd Battalion of the 18th Royal Irish Regiment were quartered. With a typescript note by Fr. Angelus.

Letters to Fr. Angelus Healy OFM Cap. from Fr. Stanislaus Kavanagh OFM Cap., St. Bonaventure’s, Cork, seeking information on the Capuchins of Cork city (with sources) from circa 1654-1766. Fr. Stanislaus refers to Fr. T.J. Walsh’s article on the Cork Capuchins: ‘It reaches a high level, and will read well. You know he is preparing it for the Capuchin Annual, with illustrations’.

Letters to Fr. Angelus Healy OFM Cap. from James Coleman FRSAI, 2 Rosehill Terrace, Queenstown, County Cork, concerning information on the predecessor to the Old Capuchin chapel on Blackamoor Lane, Cork. Coleman also expresses his satisfaction to find ‘a member of the Capuchin Order really interested in its history … [as] a large number of the Order now in Cork and Rochestown show nothing in the way of literary production any more than the secular priests who to my mind were never more illiterate than they are now’. With manuscript and typescript copies of the Coleman’s letters compiled by Fr. Angelus and a newspaper clipping of Coleman’s letter to the 'Cork Examiner' (19 Apr. 1924), referring to the chapel on Blackamoor Lane which was in use from 1771-1850.

Listing compiled by Fr. Angelus Healy OSFC of the dates of temperance missions and the numbers taking the pledge in various parishes including Ballinrobe, Westport, Louisburgh, Clare Island, Clonmel and Kells. Remarks are also included in relation to the existence of a temperance hall and the names of the Capuchin friars involved in the mission.

Notebook compiled by Fr. Angelus Healy OSFC detailing the missions and retreats given by him and other Capuchin friars from c.1903-08. The opening page notes that he was ordained on 23 Feb. 1902. An index is extant at the start of the volume. Information is given in respect of the location of the retreat or mission, the date, and the number of confessions heard and sermons preached. Occasional reference is made the subject of sermons and lectures such as ‘charity’, ‘the mercy of God’, and the 'dangers of drink’. The file also includes a separate typescript listing of missions, retreats and special sermons given by Fr. Angelus from 1903-40.
