Holy Cross Retreat, Ardoyne, Belfast; Dispute with Bishop McAllister:
Holy Cross Retreat, Ardoyne, Belfast; Dispute with Bishop McAllister: Letter from the Rector of Ardoyne, Fr. Anthony Caroll to Fr. Arthur (Devine) Highgate. (Reference to death of Fr. Stephen, 10 days before, suggests the date on this letter which actually is undatd). He hopes Arthur is preparing "a stinger" of a brief about the case, Suggests that when Arthur is in Rome he should see the Generals of the Jesuits, Dominicans and Augustinians. Uses quite warlike metaphors. Bishop was at Stephen's funeral but did not set foot inside the house, Refers to bishop's ideas about us not being an order and that we are not in fact approved but only tolerated by the Church. Suggests Arthur throws a papal bull or two at him. Gives news of arrivals "de familia", Quotes returns to bishop of Easter comuninions etc., for Ardoyne and Ligoneil, which are formidable, as well as the work of several religious socities, yet we have only 4 men with faculties,
