Copy circular letter from Patrick Pearse re the financial situation at St. Enda’s School. The letter adds ‘As the yearly loss on St. Ita’s (the girls’ College) was very heavy, it was decided in the general interests not to re-open it’.

Copy Circular Letter from Provincial Minister

Copy circular letter from Fr. Kevin Moynihan OFM Cap., Provincial Minister, announcing the purchase of Ards House by the Capuchin Order. The letter reads:

'It is more than 350 years since the Franciscans laboured “for the glory of God, and the honour of Erin” in the historic Abbey of Donegal. Now they are returning and let us hope that this new Friary of the Order will be a centre of spiritual force, the influence of which will be felt, not only in Tirconaill, but in the whole of the north of Ireland'.

He also expresses his gratitude to Fr. Aloysius Travers OFM Cap. whose ‘untiring energy’ ensured the acquisition of the property. A note (added by Fr. Angelus Healy OFM Cap.) states that a meeting of the Provincial Definitory on 5 Mar. 1930 confirmed the plan to purchase of Ards House for a canonical foundation. It is also noted that Fr. Colman Griffin OFM Cap. was appointed guardian of the new foundation.

Copy confirmation of the election of Fr. Mathew as Provincial Minister

Contemporary copy confirmation of the election of Fr. Theobald Mathew OSFC as Provincial Minister for three years at a chapter held in the Church Street Chapel. The confirmation reads:
‘Rev. James L. O’Riordan was elected first definitor having 12 votes
Rev. Mr. McCarthy of the Convent of Kilkenny 10 votes
Rev. G.J.M. Brennan 10 votes
Rev. Mr. MacLeod 7 votes
… the election of Provincial was then proceeded with … [and] that the ex-Provincial was re-elected there being for him all the votes except two which were given one for Rev. Mr. McLeod [and] the other for Rev. G. Brennan’.

Copy Contract between the Livingstone Diocese and Irish Capuchins

Copy contract between the Most Rev. Timothy Phelim O’Shea OFM Cap., Bishop of Livingstone, and Fr. Berard Creed OFM Cap., Provincial Minister, outlining the ‘mutual rights and obligations’ in respect of the relationship between the Irish Capuchins the diocesan authorities in the Livingstone. The appendices specify the parishes, foundations and properties belonging to and administered by the Order in Zambia.

Copy conveyance by Grace and Frances Blair to Richard Bell Robinson of all the right and equity of redemption in houses, tenements, hereditaments and premises situated on Walkin Street, Kilkenny, in consideration of the payment of annual annuity of £20 to Grace and Frances Blair. Robinson to hold said properties forever upon trust to keep said properties in repair, to pay the mortgage interest and also upon trust for Samuel Owen Robinson and Andrew Craig Robinson in equal proportions as tenants in common after the death of the survivor of Grace and Frances Blair. Copy made on c.3 June 1916. It is noted that Grace Blair died on 8 Dec. 1880 and Frances Blair died on 15 Oct. 1884.

Copy conveyance from Frederick Holland Mares, photographer, Grafton Street, Dublin, his wife Sarah, and Michael Burr to William Jeffares, Rochfield, Dundrum, County Dublin, of lands and premises on the west side of Cullenswood Avenue in Ranelagh, Dublin, in consideration of £600 and subject to a fee farm rent of £100 per annum. The original deed of conveyance is dated 8 December 1875. This copy is dated c.1908.

Copy conveyance of George Kiernan, apothecary, Robert Kiernan, coach maker, Surdeville Kiernan, jeweller, and Ann Kiernan, spinster, to Henry Hunt, of ‘a messuage, tenement and dwelling house, yard, and garden situate on the west side of Church Street in the City of Dublin formerly in the possession of John Cane and his undertenants but now in the possession of Robert Joseph Sutter .... containing in the breadth from north to south 55 feet, in the rear 22 feet, and in depth from east to west 185 feet’. In consideration of £400. The recital of previous deeds notes that James Kiernan, great-grandfather of above-noted lessors, obtained this property from the Trustees of Forfeited Estates on 21 May 1703. The properties were previously owned by Richard Fagan who was attained for treason. The copy was compiled by T.J. Furlong, 11 Eustace Street. With a renewal of the said lease by James Hunt to John Smith, Finstown, Dublin in consideration of £2. 28 Dec. 1815, and a further renewal by Rev. Henry Hunt, Lurgan Rectory near Virginia, County Cavan, to John Smith, Lucan, County Dublin, in consideration of £2 15s 4½d. 13 June 1856.
