This series comprises historical catalogues and schedules of papers held in the Archives of the Capuchin Friary in Kilkenny. Some of the papers listed in these catalogues are now held in the Provincial Archives in Dublin. Other records referenced in the catalogues have evidently been lost. This series comprises historical catalogues and schedules of records held in the archives of Holy Trinity Friary in Cork. Some of the material noted in these catalogues is now extant in the Irish Capuchin Archives. However, other archival material referenced in these descriptive lists has now evidently been lost.
This series contains a highly significant collection of artefacts such as original pledge cards, temperance society medals, prints, posters, photographs, temperance memorabilia, manuals, church plate, ephemera and other items and relics associated with Fr. Theobald Mathew OSFC and his temperance movement from the 1830s to the 1850s. Many of these items were collected by various Capuchin friars in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries with a view to exhibiting them for devotional and historical purposes.
The series contains correspondence, publications, posters, circulars, newspaper cuttings and ephemera relating to various commemorations of Fr. Theobald Mathew OSFC from the late nineteenth century onward. The series has been divided into seven sub-series relating to a particular anniversary (centenary or bicentenary) or commemoration of Fr. Mathew and his temperance crusade.
This section includes files relating to the Capuchin community resident in Ard Mhuire Friary. The series includes records relating to various aspects of their religious life, to their ministries and their interactions with the clergy of the diocese of Raphoe and with various lay fraternities and associations.
This series comprises records relating to communications mainly from the Catholic Bishops of Ossory and other ecclesiastical authorities in the diocese. It includes letters regarding appointments as confessors and chaplains, the granting of faculties, notices of religious ceremonies and communications from other religious in the locality.
